Abstract:
Leak detection and location of fluid transport pipelines often requires flow measurements which may be unavailable in practice. In this paper a new leak detection method based on kullback information is proposed,in which leak is detected by analyzing the time sequence of the pressure gradient at the inlet and out-let of the pipeline. It requires only 4 pressure measurements,namely,2 at each end of pipeline.Furthermore, computational expenditure is small, and can be implemented easily. Its effectiveness and practicality have been shown by test results on a 10mm×120m experimental water pipeline.
