Abstract: This paper presents the formation and mutual-promoting development of automation and manufacturing industry, and discusses the con notation and important role of automated manufacturing system during its formation and development phases. It points out that automation and manufacturing techn ology are the two wheels to drive advanced manufacturing system to advance; neither of them can beignored. The paper concludes that combination of the researches on automation and manufacturing technology is the only road to the development of advanced manufacturing technology.
