Abstract: This paper makes a survey of the recent works on routing protocols for wireless sensor networks(WSN). First, this paper presents a unique set of challenges faced by the routing protocols of wireless sensor networks. Then, it classifies, compares and analyzes the representative routing protocols. At the end of this paper, the principles for designing routing protocols are put forward and the open research issues are also discussed.
