APPLICATION OF CATASTROPHE THEORY TO TRANSIENT STABILITY STUDY OF LARGE POWER SYSTEMS

  • This paper proposes a method for fast transient stability assessment of large power systems.First themultimachine system is replaced by an equivalent circuit. Then transient stability region and steady statestability region are well defined by using swallowtail catastrophe.Critical clearing time is easily obtained.Theoretical analysis and results of a numerical example show its advantage in accuracy and computationspeed compared with other methods.
